Developing shale gas reserves in Cooper Basin The signing of an agreement to develop shale gas reserves in the Cooper Basin signals a new era for the region. A Memorandum of Understanding between South Australia’s Beach Energy and the Australian Unit of Canada’s ATCO targets the development and commercialisation of so-called unconventional gas and petroleum liquid resources held by Beach Energy. Initial work by the company suggests the potential for a world class shale-gas resource of tens of trillions of cubic feet within its Cooper Basin holdings. The shale and gas accumulations within the basin are resources that more than rival the coal seam methane fields in Queensland and New South Wales. Copyright Hallmark Editions 2010.
